Jaden McDaniels leaves Monday’s game with ankle injury Jaden McDaniels left Monday’s game with a right ankle injury and was confirmed out quickly by the team.McDaniels missed a couple games to open the season with a calf injury. In the past, McDaniels’ absence has led to a deterioration of Minnesota’s defense. But the Timberwolves have better wing depth to absorb such losses this season, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker also serving as an excellent perimeter defender and Anthony Edwards capable of guarding high-volume wings on the ball.McDaniels’ absence led to Troy Brown Jr. — who’s received spotty minutes thus far this season — seeing action in the second quarter Monday against New York.National respectThe Timberwolves entered Monday’s contest against the Knicks in the top spot in the Western Conference standings. And with winning comes respect and the type of national recognition of which there’s been little for the Timberwolves throughout the franchise’s existence.Pundits on a ...

Gov. Jared Polis signs four bills, including property tax relief, after lawmakers wrap up special session Four of the seven bills passed by lawmakers during an emergency session aimed at softening property tax increases and providing other forms of relief to residents were signed into law Monday evening by Gov. Jared Polis, just hours after the legislature adjourned. The measures approved since Friday, in a session called after voters rejected Proposition HH this month, will affect nearly all Coloradans who are grappling with surging property taxes and a fast-rising cost of living. The owner of a typical $500,000 home will still see a significantly higher property tax bill early next year, but it will go up roughly half as much under the first measure signed by Polis.Income taxpayers will see a flat refund of about $800 under another new law, which follows the flat-refund model used last year for rebates mandated by the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights instead of a tiered system that provides more to higher income earners. As many as 400,000 lower-income workers who qualify for the federal...

Nikola Jokic, Michael Malone ejected but Nuggets hang on to hand Pistons 12th consecutive loss DETROIT — Instead of gradually amassing five fouls to keep himself mostly sidelined, Nikola Jokic expedited the process this time.In the second game of a Rust Belt back-to-back in which Denver’s frustration with officiating stewed and simmered until it boiled over, Jokic followed Nuggets coach Michael Malone down the tunnel almost exactly one quarter after Malone was ejected for arguing calls early in a 107-103 Nuggets win against the Pistons.Denver (10-4) escaped a hectic finish to snap a four-game road losing streak and extend Detroit’s losing streak to 12 games. Reggie Jackson led the charge sans Jokic with 21 points, six assists and no turnovers in a mostly sloppy game. Denver turned it over 14 times, Detroit 18 times. Jackson scored a floater and-one to tie the Pistons at 97, gave the Nuggets a 103-101 lead with a driving layup and lobbed an assist for Aaron Gordon that turned into the go-ahead and-one with 1:33 left. Denver never relinquished that lead thanks...

Howell, Wilson reach milestones while leading defensive resurgence for Colorado State Colorado State redshirt junior linebacker Chase Wilson and junior defensive back Jack Howell reached milestones Saturday night against Nevada, but the two are more importantly leading a CSU defense that has played a big role in the team’s last two victories. In the Rams’ 30-20 victory against the Wolf Pack at Canvas Stadium, both Wilson and Howell topped 100 tackles for the season. It was Wilson’s first time reaching the century mark and Howell’s second.“Really, really proud of Chase going over 100 tackles in his first year starting at linebacker,” CSU head coach Jay Norvell said. “Jack has had a tremendous career here. We’re so proud of those guys.”Both players needed big games against Nevada to reach those milestones and both of them delivered. Howell had 12 tackles to push his season total to 106 while Wilson had 11 to give him 102. Wilson also had a pair of tackles for loss and a sack in the game. Not only did Howell top 100 for the second year in a row, but he is the first CSU de...

Crush of Thanksgiving traffic underway in SoCal As the Thanksgiving Day holiday approaches, millions of Southern Californians are headed out of town, creating a days-long crush of traffic on the freeways and at the airports.  At Los Angeles International Airport, traveling over the holiday weekend can be a bit worse than some people might anticipate.  “The airport, getting in, still like 30 minutes just trying to get in and park,” one traveler told KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw. “Thirty whole minutes, literally, just trying to get over to the Southwest part. It was ridiculous.”  Once inside the Southwest terminal, long lines of passengers waiting to check in their bags awaits those just arriving at the airport.  Holiday travelers in the Southwest terminal at LAX on Nov. 20, 2023. (KTLA)An estimated 2.5 million people are expected to pass through LAX over the next 10 days, a number that airport officials said is 300,000 more than last year. Musk is now giving new life to the ‘Pizzagate’ conspiracy By Clare Duffy | CNNElon Musk on Monday boosted the dangerous, years-old “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, just days after being roundly criticized and facing an advertiser exodus following his embrace of an antisemitic conspiracy theory. In a post Monday, an X user attempted to link the founder of Media Matters — the progressive media watchdog that last week identified ads for major brands running alongside pro-Nazi content on X — to the owner of the “Pizzagate restaurant.” Musk replied: “Weird.” By replying, Musk called the post to the attention of his more than 160 million followers on X.Pizzagate is an anti-Hillary Clinton conspiracy theory that spun up on 4chan, Reddit, Twitter and other platforms in the final days before the 2016 US presidential election. Amid 6-game losing streak, Steve Kerr says Warriors ‘need some practice time’ SAN FRANCISCO — Riding a six-game losing streak entering their matchup Monday night against the Houston Rockets, what the Golden State Warriors need, coach Steve Kerr said, is more practice.“We need some practice time and kind of sharpen some things up,” Kerr said before tipoff. The losing streak, longer than any they had last season, has been a trying stretch of basketball. Without Steph Curry for two games, and with Draymond Green missing his third straight Monday serving a five-game suspension, the Warriors’ offensive rating has sunk to fourth from the bottom of the league over the six-game skid. They entered Monday night at 6-8, in 10th place in the Western Conference.Kerr chalked up their early struggles to a feeling-out period, as he attempted to trim down his rotation.“The biggest thing with this team now is there hasn’t been separation in terms of the nine or 10 guys who are going to play night after night,” Kerr said. “By my count, if we’re...
