Hair is as integral to identity as voice is to speech. How a person wears their hair can speak volumes about their self expression, heritage or cultural identity. While some hairstyles are celebrated by the mainstream, others showcasing the beauty of Afro-textured hair have not received the same embrace. Laws, such as the CROWN Act, protect against discrimination in employment and education, ensuring that natural hairstyles such as locs, Afros and Bantu knots do not eliminate opportunities for the people who predominantly wear them.Additionally, companies such as Locsanity, a Florida-based loc, natural hair, and personal care brand, have been helping to increase awareness and acceptance. The brand has developed a line of hair care products that women, men, and children can use to bring out the beauty and versatility of their locs. And now, Locsanity is taking things even further…Enter Ensie Durin, The New Face of LocsanityEnsie Durin is a professional model based in Atlanta, Georgia....

Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga shared the West Coast Conference men’s basketball title last year as both teams finished 14-2 in league play. This year’s race for the conference crown might be similarly tight, if the WCC coaches are proven correct, and the Gaels may end up on top.The conference’s preseason coaches’ poll, released Thursday, projected Saint Mary’s to win the league with 61 total poll points and five first-place votes. Gonzaga was immediately behind them with 60 points and four first-place votes among the nine head coaches. The Gaels lost lead guard Logan Johnson and forward Kyle Bowen as key contributors to last year’s team, which lost to eventual champion Connecticut in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. 76% of California’s pandemic pay hikes lost to inflation

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 21:08:05 GMT

Inflation has gobbled up three-quarters of the buying power Californians’ got from pandemic-era pay hikes. That’s what my trusty spreadsheet tells me when I compare stats from September’s Consumer Price Index report and recent earnings data for four metro areas – Los Angeles-Orange County, San Francisco, the Inland Empire and San Diego. On average, weekly wages in these four markets rose 24% from the end of 2019 through 2023’s first quarter. Meanwhile, the local cost of living inflated by 19% through September. That adds up to higher prices cutting the value of recent raises by 76%. It’s no wonder why so many folks in the Golden State are grumpy. It may help explain why we’ve seen a rash of labor unrest such as strikes in Hollywood and at Kaiser health care.To be fair, inflation has improved modestly. Look at the most recent rate of California pay hikes of 5.7% pay jumps compared to a 4% bump in the cost of living. So that’s only 71% lost to inflation.Related ArticlesEconomy | ...

Founders either knew each other or watched what the others were doing to find out what worked and what didn’t. Sometimes they helped each other out. This was especially true in San Bernardino, where McDonald’s, Taco Bell and Del Taco all had their roots. Here are six of those chains in chronological order.Carl’s Jr.: Carl Karcher opened a hot dog cart at Florence and Central in Los Angeles in 1941.
